Been eating here more with my daughter lately. Really happy with the udon & California roll combo. They are always so welcoming here; love how the miso soup is always a given -they're so nice they give us 2 because they know me and my daughter are splitting the combo.

Although the food was edible, I wouldn't say it's the best. The prices aren't the best either - I expected cheaper for a small joint like this. Tried their shrimp tempura crunch roll and crawfish roll and they were mediocre at best. Probably didn't help that I went as the dinner crowds was rolling in. I'll probably try to come in before the lunch rush one day since a lot of people seem to rave about this place.

Wowww. Really embarrassing. My salmon salad had just the salmon skins chopped up an tossed on my salad. It looks as though someone ate the salmon and spit it on my food. Lol this is hilarious? I have never seen this before, and have ordered this dish several times in the past. Sad day for me because I didn't see this until I got to work.

Not the best I've ever had but I think of the Las Vegas roll to often. Free miso soup when u dine in

This place is eh.. I bought the chicken bowl and the beef bowl. Pretty disappointed at the quality of the rice, parts were dry and under cooked while with the other parts super soggy. The chicken and beef portion was half way decent. Overall experience was very disappointing.

So I've experienced the delivery from here and loved it. Now, I stopped into the location. I'll start with service, it's awesome. I can't complain at all, fast, friendly staff, Chris checked in on us if we needed anything often. Food, fantastic as always. Got the super maki and sushi combo and a rainbow roll with it. Everything was great, I had lil left and rather than making me pack it up, Chris packed it and I was out the door. I've been to places where they make you pack it, but this place is awesome. I'll be coming back often.

The food was so/so. I was disappointed when I ordered the Amber Roll, and it looked like it was thrown into the box. This California bowl doesn't present or put much effort into their food. I would recommend going to the one on Balboa/Nordoff.

The prices are reasonable. The food is wonderful tasting and pretty healthy. I love the Tempura Tofu. You get a ton of rice and not much tofu though. :-( Also, the chicken bowl is the best. For only $6 it is a filling meal. Chicken, rice, and veggies. Perfect meal. The staff is really nice and the place always has a lot of customers. Pretty good amount of seating too!

  • Bryan S.

I usually go with delivery here. I've been to the restaurant and it's nice with friendly staff but delivery to work is just a little more convenient. The baked lobster roll is absolutely delicious, the lunch boxes they have are all good and everything is reasonably priced.

Love it here. I always order to go at least 2 or 3 times a month. The chicken & beef combo are the best. The soups too. The girls are always so nice. I'm always pleased with my order.

This is a great neighborhood place, and I get something to go from here about 1-2 times a month. First, the service is great. Really nice register people. Tonight I came in a minute before closing, and they didn't look bummed out all (like I would have been) and were totally helpful. California Bowl is a cut above your strip mall sushi place. For its price point, the portions are sizeable, the fish a good quality, and a nice selection of non-sushi items. This is on my regular rotation of weekday meals that are affordable, delicious and healthy. So glad it's in my neighborhood.

Place is delicious!! Service is great and friendly. I eat here at least once a week. They have the BEST $6 Teriyaki bowl! There sushi is great too!

  • Tricia H.

I drive by this place everyday on my way home, so it's convenient. Plus boba loca is next door. Good food, reasonably priced.

  • Jonathan M.

this is very near where I live. Very good and prices are reasonable. Kind of like a go-to place for me and my wife when we can't decide on what to cook or eat. Hard to beat beef combination meal when you are in need of a good ol' Asian food quick fix.

    (4)
  • Mario M.

I only tried the sushi here. I would not recommend this place. Why? The food was overpriced. Buffet-quality sushi with high prices. I left hungry, since it wasn't a good portion size for the price. The ambiance wasn't so nice. It's really plain in there. Workers seemed ambivalent.

The best food ever! Order anything and you will be happy!!!! I love the chicken and beef marinade! The people working there are real nice and always cheerful.

This place is pretty good with a wide selection. I really liked the salmon salad I had while I was doing a cleanse. It's tasty and healthy and quite a relief as I was stranded waiting for the bus with only this, Subway, Jack, and other fast food place options. The tempura is okay, and their specials are appealing, if not a little underwhelming. Prices are decent but nothing a hole in the wall should really be able to pull off. I quite enjoy the fact that they have Mr. Pibb and the last time I went there was a lady bug walking around the joint! My dad liked it and will go back. I might if I'm in the area.

    (3)
  • Dwight J.

Went to get some lunch the customer service was okay but the food is not a great quality. Also if you're planning to get the vegetable tempura don't do it, it's $4.50 and the only give you six pieces and or slices of vegetables.. Like being cheap with the vegetables come on man.

  • Kathy V.

I like this place. They are good with delivery and they are fast with their food coming out too :) The sushi is decent. The service is great. The location is a bit small but there is a lot of parking. There is free miso soup. I got the spicy tuna roll for $6.95. It came out to $7.58 but tax. Try it. They also do catering.

This is one of those formulaic sushi, tempura, bento box and bowl restaurants that seem to be in every third strip mall of every metropolitan city in So Cal; Japanese generalists at best and everything is fair to middling, or at least edible. This is a roll shop. They feature every most popular roll you've seen elsewhere. Large cut rolls start at about $10 and go up to $15 and hand rolls start at $5. Portions are ample: good size, average taste/quality. They also have bowls like chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, etc and box lunches featuring a grilled item, a small roll, salad and a tempura item - typically a good deal if you are hungry and like variety. The bowls are very cost effective and good for a quick lunch or light dinner. Flavors (sauces) are limited and aside from teriyaki and "eel sauce" you can also find soy and sriracha - but that's about it. Beverages are limited to fountain drinks and a few bottled and canned items. Free water with a SODA tap on the fountain for bubbly water - my fave. I've eaten here a few times and have always had consistent quality and service. The place is small, maybe 10 tables? and waiting for a spot at lunchtime is a serious drag - go a bit earlier, or later than the peak lunch rush, or call ahead and get it to go. There is ample parking in the lot out front with easy entrances and exits on the west side of Sepulveda and north side of Victory.

This place is super yummy with a variety of options. I don't give it 5 stars because the girl working the register in the front is always bothered and and has an attitude when taking your order.

    (4)
  • Ramon T.

It's not the fanciest place, but the service is fast and the food is good. May recommend the spicy ramen bowl. Delicious and one of my favorites.

    (4)
  • Stephanie D.

I like this place because it's easy to get to, food comes out quickly, and they also do delivery! The sushi and fresh fish is decent. Much better than the other local sushi spots nearby in Van Nuys. Everyone is nice enough. It's a no frills casual type of place but the food is good and straight to the point. They also give free miso if you dine in. Not bad!

    (4)
  • L'lia T.

Good vegetarian options. Their tempura has a great fry and seems fresh. It's not too crunchy. The tofu has a great texture too.

Last time I was here it was two years ago. It's good. I brought two of my best friends here and they liked it. One of them doesn't like sushi so she ordered bbq chicken and beef teriyaki and she really liked it. So I think this will be one of our places to come and eat. I got the fire cracker roll and my other friend caterpillar roll and it was good.they also give free miso soup. Not bad at all.

  • Faith C.

I'm very happy with this hole in the wall restaurant. I usually order take out or delivery but either way i always receive a quality dish. I love the rolls here and the baked salmon has always been so good! It's bunched in with a lot of other businesses but parking is plentiful

I wrote a review in July of 2012 and after countless deliveries over these past 3 years I feel it's time for an update. I ordered dinner this evening for 5 people. I had a menu with prices from at least 8 months ago. Since 2012, Oh! Oh! Sushi (California Bowl) in Van Nuys has raised their prices ONCE! That's right people, ONCE! I happen to be in the food business and to all those asswipes who think California Bowl's prices are too high, you can kiss my ass! You ex New Yorkers don't know a damn thing unless you are spending $50-$60 for some half ass dinner! The food, the portions, the customer service and the freshness plus the prices, can't be beat at the Van Nuys Oh! Oh! Sushi-Teriyaki. I couldn't believe that their prices hadn't changed in such a long time and considering the cost of fresh tuna, yellowtail, salmon etc these days, I take my hat off to them! The customers who give this place a 1 or 2 star rating are morons and have no business eating anything other than Taco Bell or the Dollar menu at McDonalds! Like I stated 3 years ago, the food here is not fancy smancy, it's fresh, it's tasty, it's plentiful and it's priced fairly. Add in a sushi place that delivers for a $30.00 min order and you've got a winner in the Van Nuys area.

So I've always pass here when my boss sends me to the bank in the plaza. I decided to go for my lunch and got it to go because space is limited. They are the only ones so far who can make a good Bento plate. The meat was how it's suppose to be and cut too,the rice was good, the Bento plate comes with California rolls but I got spicy tuna rolls instead. The rolls were delicious but the tempura veggies needed a little more cooking they were kind of not crispy how it's suppose to be. I wished they would give you salad with a peanut dressing instead of, steamed veggies.I will definitely come back here and try the rest of their menu. The service was ok but it's worth trying the food out.

  • Cynthia L.

Yummy yummy yummy!! This is a small place with few tables and very simple decor but the sushi is DELICIOUS. I'm so glad I've discovered this spot I will be back. The Pink Lady roll was to die for!

    (5)
  • Grace M.

I've been coming here since they open and I like this place. The sushi is better then most others and fast too. Not to mention if you stay to eat :) they give you free miso soup. I love FREE and miso soup:) one happy girl

  • Avi S.

I've been going to this place for the last two years 2-3 time a week, I used to order the grilled salmon salad which is a good one but the two times I went there the portion of the salmon fillet was so tiny, I directed it to the owner and he didn't even care, he said that's what it is.. I told him your going to lose a loyal customer and he responded "that's fine"! Karina the girl at the front was always kind and helpful! If you go there just don't order that salad it's a rip off!!!

    (1)
  • Jessica L.

Ive been here maybe 5 or 6 times, and only once have I encountered someone who wasnt friendly for working with the public. Food is great, other than the girl here one of the times, employees are friendly as they should be. Just too small.

Wanted to like it... and there are some good things about it... 10:40am, I walk in and the waitress gave me a to-go menu and asked the chef if she could take an order, but the rice was not ready (they open at 11am). She was really nice and told me that she hoped I would be back soon. That was nice of her to help me out. I went in a couple days later and ordered the ca roll. dislikes: rice (too much vinegar/sugar), avocado (small). likes: price and overall portion size were decent, service with a smile overall: it was okay -I guess I am a little picky b/c my mom makes really delicious ca rolls! A couple days after that I ordered the chicken katsu. dislike: dry, smelled and looked like pork. :( I really dislike pork. I would have saved it for my husband, but he doesn't like pork either. I called and was put on hold right when it was picked up. I waited for a couple minutes only to be told that the chicken katsu is dark meat and may look like pork, but that she thought it was probably chicken. I am not a fan of boiled vegetables... reminds me of yoshinoya (fast food). likes: rice & "chicken" portion were generous. -actually, now that I think of it, the picture of the katsu next to the listed katsu menu items has a picture of a tonkatsu and shredded cabbage with corn on top. If it was a picture with boiled vegetables, I would't have gotten it (which is why I didn't opt for the chicken teriyaki bowl). Perhaps they should list on the menu that it is dark meat so people will not be surprised about this. I am not used to dark meat "chicken" katsu at restaurants (vs fast foods), so I didn't even think to ask. For $8.50, I was expecting tasty/juicy white meat chicken (even if the portion was a little smaller). I really wish I liked it or that something was done about the order, because now I have a plate of food, an empty stomach, and am out $9.27, which makes me not want to try anything again. :T See picture below

The owner is such a douche bag. Our sushi was literally rotten! The cucumbers were old and fish was really bad! When I complained The owner did not want to do anything about it. Exact words "throw it out for all I care" and laughed at my face. Disgusting place with a disgusting owner.

  • Jilber G.

This place is amazing. I always get great service here. They include a free miso soup appetizer for sit-down customers, which is always a plus. Always quick when I order out, and have a great variety of dishes. I always get the Yaki Soba noodles which is great as a noodle dish (no soup) but there is also sushi which I will sometimes have for lunch when I'm in the mood. Overall, great place.

  • Lucy I.

This place has bomb rolls! So close to my house but their delivery option is greattttt!!! So thankful for that!!! Tiger roll and caterpillar are my favorites!!!!! Gonna order right now lol

  • Darlene C.

Their sushi is really good. I love the mexico city roll. The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is because the servers can be very rude. The male and the female severs can be rude at times. I go atleast once a week, so now I just buy take out better

    (3)
  • Tiffany M.

I'm certainly a regular. I work close by so this is one of my go to places. At least once a week. 99.99% of the time I get their Chicken Bowl. I also change it up often. Sometimes little rice and more veggies. Sometimes all veggies. Sometimes white meat only. I'm never disappointed with their ingredients. The veggies are always cooked well although sometimes they have an odd taste. Perhaps the water they boil them in?? Not too sure. Don't get me wrong. It's not at all unpalatable. I do love that they have a large bottle of siracha and soy at the table. Their free miso (eat in only) is perfectly light and delicious. My only complaint is that the ladies at the front are not always so ladylike. They often have a bit of an attitude. Sometimes I don't want to deal so I decide to go elsewhere. Had the customer service been on par daily I would've given them 5 stars. For the type of restaurant (moderately fast food) it is pretty tasty and with a large selection.

  • Margarita L.

Super easy ordering on the phone. Plenty of parking. The girl in the front was extremely nice and quick with the service . My food was great. The rolls are big and delicious. I ordered the Philly Roll & Baked Salmon Roll. Would come here again.

    (5)
  • Dawn H.

Very good and reasonable. I got the beef bowl and an "add on" 5 pc California roll. The beef is tender and tasty with a teriyaki sauce on it. And for $2.50 you can add the California Roll. Their rolls are made to order and they taste fresh. Great place for a quick and yummy lunch.

  • Richard P.

Richard Pro here with another review. I was expecting more of a restaurant instead of a fast food place. Tried their california roll but it was very moist and the kani was too sweet. Also tried their calamari but it was very squishy and bland. 2 stars. Pretty subpar place. Service was excellent though.

    (2)
  • Paige Y.

I'm pretty sure the woman who took our order over the phone was high. The sushi is really good here and we order often but tonight I was told they do not offer a salmon tempura roll combo...even though it's right there on the menu. We were also told the minimum for delivery is $30. $30?? Since when?? That is amazingly expensive and we have never had that problem before. Never mind, I don't want to blame drugs for this. That woman was just an idiot.

    (2)
  • Comron R.

I go here regularly and have tried a lot of different items. I've always enjoyed the food and think it's delicious. It's definitely not a place I would take someone who requires "high-end" sushi, since I know they will end up saying something negative and I don't want to bother with that. The prices are reasonable, and depending on what you order you get a lot of food for how much you pay. The cashiers/servers/table cleaners (yes they do it all!) are very friendly and helpful. Just watch out for the table closest to the register. Cups and bowls have been known to float across the table! It even happened to me the last time I went. Item to try: Fried calamari rings. It's an expensive item and I don't recommend ordering it all the time, but it's a delicious deep fried treat from time to time.

    (5)
  • Jasmine B.

My boyfriend his friends and I always call in our order for sushi rolls . Best sushi ever and for a good price I would say 2 orders of California rolls and 3 orders of crunchy rolls for all about $30ish ( mind you each order has 10 pieces)

    (5)
  • Lauren M.

Just ate lunch here. Got the beef bowl($6) and a spicy tuna roll($10). Never getting the bowl again; way too much rice, the meat was mediocre and there were hardly any veggies. The Spicy Tuna Roll was very good and I would definitely buy it again. If you dine in they give you a free bowl of miso soup. The miso soup does not have any seaweed in it just very small tofu chunks. Overall I would come back again to try a couple rolls but this wouldn't be my first choice.

  • Gina R.

My sister and I decided to grab sushi for dinner, and she recommended California Bowl for a cheap dinner. When we entered, the waiter greeted us and we took a table near the window. Considering it was dinnertime, it was not crowded at all. It's a small restaurant but it well kept and clean. We ordered our rolls, and overall they were good for the price. Our food came out fairly fast. It wasn't the best sushi I had, but for the price you can't really complain!

    (4)
  • Doris P.

Try the Rattle Snake Roll... to die for!

    (5)
  • Thom P.

It's okay. I can tell the California roll wasn't made fresh, since the rice was pressed hard, like the way a place like Pavilions does it. I'm the douche for ordering a Cali roll, I guess. Not really real sushi. But an assessment nonetheless. I would be nterested in how their actual sushi is. The chicken teriyaki was really dry. Thus is the case with fast food sushi. They give you a lot for the price though. So if you like volume, this may be your place. A box contains tempura, a soup, steamed vegetables, rice, meat of your choice and California roll=$10. Not bad, but for an extra buck I probably could've gotten this at a more authentic place. It's just an okay place. The thought of trying a new place, sorta' steered me away from the pho place next door. So, it may've been an unfair review considering if you have your mind set on one thing and to raise the bar when you're sidestep, kinda' opens a door for just a bad experience. I suppose that's why I believe, it's A-OK. The service is really good too. I'm the moron who couldn't figure out that there was already steamed vegetables on my plate. She had to reiterate that the broccoli is a vegetable and it has been steamed. Either way, she was NOT snotty about it. Whereas, they easily could've put me in my place. I feel in places like this, where they see my dumb Asian face, they may assume I'm related in some part to the restaurant in some way. So, they get real nervous around me. I mean, I have pretty low standards, and I'm sure this wasn't amiss with my board shorts and t-shirt that claims I won a rock paper scissors contest. Either way they were fast, and accommodating and kept the place clean.

A great place! Friendly service and good tasting sushi! The victory roll and Las Vegas roll are the best so far! Definitely recommend this place.

I like this lil place! The girl at the front was so sweet and knew the regulars orders. Rolls were legit.

  • John M.

Good people, very friendly, quick service, tasty food of the Japanese variety, and CHEAP. What else can you ask for? Edit: If you're interested in getting the combination bentos, you can ask them substitute your California roll for a more fancy sushi roll for only a few bucks more!

California Bowl is easy to miss because of its location, which is a shame because it was yummy. It's at a pretty underwhelming strip mall where I think most people frequent to eat at Pho 999 (look it up--soooo many reviews). The sign said it was their grand opening, so hopefully they'll get their proper signage soon so people can find them easier. It is located near the nail salon kind of in the middle of the strip mall, if that helps. About three or four stores to the left of Pho 999. The restaurant itself is pretty small, it seems more of a takeout place. But if you do decide to dine-in, everyone there is nice and the establishment is clean. I ordered the Kalbi (BBQ Beef Short Ribs) Teriyaki plate, which came with a generous portion of steamed white rice and tossed salad as my sides. Although I was just doing take-out, one of the workers gave me a bowl of sweet potato strips to munch on while I waited (SO delicious, by the way). The meat was good, tender and not too fatty. Reminded me of plate lunches from Hawai--straight forward and delicious. I'm reserving the extra star for when I try more items on their menu (like their sushi or udon), but so far I'm a fan. Especially when I'm missing Hawaii and want to cry into my steamed rice. I'll scan the menu so you can see just how extensive their selection is.

  • Imee M.

There's not much to say really, just your average, low end sushi/teriyaki spot. The quality of the fish/food in general isn't top knotch, but it's still mighty yummy. The baked salmon roll definitely hits the spot everytime. They have another location in North Hills which is slighty bigger. This place in particular is definitely not a good place for crowds, however orderting to-go or take-out is always an option. There's minimal service but it's never been bad, in my opinion. Also, they have plenty of items on the menu for everyone to enjoy.

  • Mark S.

I had the Tuna and Salmon traditional sushi with strips of tuna and salmon. Wow! The fish they use is the best I've seen ever used on sushi. HUGE slices, not just skimpy little strips either. They put a little terriaki glaze over it I think to give it flavor and include lemon, ginger, 2 soy sauce packets per order, and a seprate tub of wasabi, along with the chopstics and napkins. It was good!

food is ok. nothing fancy or extraordinary. Japanese cuisine and "fast food" typically do not belong in the same sentence.. Especially when it comes to the higher end items such as sushi.. So how does California Bowl do it?? It has all the makings for a bad meal.. It's a chain It's fast food It's kitchen is tiny It's in VAN NUYS!! LOL! YET, they do a wonderful job here.. It's the perfect spot for your lunch hour.. A little caveat, the place is small with only a handful of tables.. But the staff is efficient at pumping out orders and bussing tables ensuring quick turnover. I have never waited more than 5 minutes for a place to sit and eat here, even in the middle of the lunch rush hour. Also, Most people come here and take their food to go.. So it may seem more packed than it really is, if you're looking in from the parking lot.. Don't let that discourage you.. The food is a pleasant surprise here.. So far I have had sushi (both rolls and nigiri), Udon, Ramen and Teriyaki, and nothing has disappointed yet. Everything has good flavor that I'd venture a guess that it's all prepared fresh.. Sure it isn't Sugarfish or Urasawa quality, C'mon.. You're paying less than 15 bucks for your entire meal here.. That won't even be enough for a tip at those high brow places.. Bottom line is, This is great bang for your buck! So I guess this serves a lesson in not judging a book by it's cover.. That a good japanese meal can come from a fast food joint.. That you can have lunch in Van Nuys and survive to write a review about it..

What a great little place I found, thanks to yelp!!! I had an intense sushi craving and I was nowhere near home. So I stopped, yelped, and this is what came up. Its pretty much right off the freeway - very convenient. The lady working was very very nice and accomodating. I told her some specifics I had regarding taste as well as portion size, and she totally knew what to suggest. That was impressive. She also thanked genuinely me for coming in when I said I randomly found them on yelp. Food satisfied the craving. The pieces are cut pretty big which is nice. Also, very affordable! This may just be my new favorite stop to go to when doing the los angeles to santa clarita drive on the 405.

It's a small little place without a ton of seating but the food is great here. The staff is also very charming and always seem to be in a good mood, courteous and helpful. During lunch/dinner hours I'd recommend calling in an order for pick up just to be safe.

I go to this place maybe once every month and always try something new. So far it has been a hit and miss. The miso soup is ok, the lunch box is good, the salads look better on the picture than it tastes and the rolls are satisfactory. The good thing about this place is that it is clean and fast to get your order.

I am here at least once a week. It's good, cheap sushi. The rolls are big and should be enough for a meal. If you are not a Sushi person, half of the rolls are cooked (so they really aren't sushi). The Catalina roll is baked with Salmon on top and is really good.

The combination orders are some of the best deals in town, I eat a lot and it is always fills me up. The spicy pork especially tastes great, while the sushi is average to below average. The servers have always been pleasant and always ask me if I want refill on the miso soup, which is generous. The only problem is there is NO BATHROOM for customers! I eat here at least once a week and it bothers me that I cannot come in and wash my hands or use the restroom. The management wouldn't even let me use the employee bathroom, which is a big red flag in proper management and customer service skills. Having to use El Pollo Loco's bathroom, which is next door, is not a good look for a new business.

We love this place. They are the only place we have found in the county that has actual full rolls that are made fresh. I suggest calling ahead for your order if you are eating out. My faves are the tiger and Las Vegas rolls.

This place used to be Falafel Roxy but now its this Japanese fast casual dining experience. The prices are reasonable but the amount of food is gargantuan. Whenever I go anyplace that serves sushi I am always wary of the serving size. Sometimes you get small rolls cut very thinly and rolled thinly and sometimes you get "super sized" portions and then there is the middle of the pack. This place gives you pretty "super sized" portions of sushi and other offerings. I had the Philly Roll and Firecracker Roll. Both were large servings and both were quite tasty. I usually order two rolls any sushi place I go that is not all you can eat because I never know how much I'm going to get. I would have been satisfied with on order instead of my two. My girlfriend got the Veggie Tempura and Spicy Pork Dinner. The tempura was crispy and delicious while the pork left something to be desired. I was not feeling it tastewise but it was a good effort. The service was cheery and friendly. Even though its not your typical sit down Japanese restaurant, they still checked up on us and asked about our experience and food. So that was a plus. We will definitely be back and will try more of their menu items.

I always have a great experience when I come here. Service and food are better than you would expect from a small strip mall location. It looks like they do a lot of take out business

Went here looking for something good and healthy. I ordered the Spicy Tuna bowl with no rice. It was amazing! They stacked a ton of Spicy Tuna on top of veggies and it hit the spot. The location was also clean and the staff was friendly. I'll be back!

Great lunch spot and reasonably priced. So glad they put they put a sushi spot closer to my office. Not much of a selection in this area. Staff is always super friendly. My fave is the spicy tuna bowl. The portion size is good too. The udon soup is another great choice. Oh and if you have to use the restroom they don't have one.

The Food: This place has amazing sushi, and food. Their sushi plates are usually quite big and can be very filling. Their bento box is usually enough for two meals because you get a huge portion of teriyaki, steat rice, salad, sushi or rolls, and tempura. Their lobster salad is huge! So it is definitely worth the price. I also love that they give you complimentary miso soup when you dine in. The only thing I can say about the food that I did not like, is that unlike their sister restaurants in Northridge, they do not add toasted sesame seeds to the outside of their california rolls. I always thought that made it much better. Their shrimp tempura rolls are to die for. Definitely as great a food as their sister restaurants in Northridge. Location: I like that there is plenty of parking available in this lot. The inside of the restaurant is clean and feels very bright. The only problem is that just like their sister restaurant on Balboa and Nordhoff, their seating is SO limited. You have to get here about 10 minutes prior to the lunch rush (12pm) to find a seat. Service: Their service here is great! I have seen the same waitress there each time I have eaten here, and she is very nice and helpful! Definitely a big change from their restaurant on Nordhoff and Balboa. Overall this location got it right!

Great portions, but some rolls do fall apart. I personally don't care, but others might. BSCR was really good, Spicy Tuna Salad was HUGE, but I'd probably ask them to hold the wasabi sauce next time. Prices were reasonable since my girlfriend and I got full, and still took some home. You can't go wrong here.

I'm so extremely happy that there is a great sushi place so close to me now. I used to have to travel to near by cities to get good sushi. Now i can have it delivered if i choose to. The portions are amazing for the prices! Only thing is they do not have Tempura green tea ice cream :( which is why they don't get 5 stars. Other than that, great affordable and yummy sushi, friendly staff and clean establishment.

We order from here (for lunch at the office) quite often. Everything has always been yummy and fresh. We have not had a bad experience and the delivery is always timely. The sushi is not the highest caliber, but the price is right!

Amazing Sushi Rolls Here! All the usual favorites plus their own creations and some of which are the most creative rolls I have ever seen. Great food, very fresh, and quick! I will be coming here a lot.

I was really impressed with both the flavor and the quantity for a medium price - not bad at all! I will likely become a regular now that I've found this place so close to my house!

Woo! Van-not-so-Nuys...you have some redeeming qualities!! I might stop saying I live in Sherman Oaks adjacent if you keep surprising me with gems like California Bowl...but don't get too excited yet. So this is the place you want to go to grab casual, fast, but delicious sushi. The other reviewers were not lying--the portions are HUGE. I ordered a green dragon roll and I could barely finish it. If you order in you get friendly service, free miso soup, a very clean establishment, and free soda fountain refills! Only downside is no bathroom so go easy on those refills, pal. There's also an extensive menu so be prepared to feel slightly overwhelmed. Thank god they have pictures of everything. Overall great fast sushi place and the quality of the food is waaaay better than SanSai. In fact, it doesnt even compare. P.S. The sign on the front is an advertisment nightmare. The giant letters to look for say "SUSHI & TERIYAKI"...and then you notice the California Bowl. Lol.

Service is great. Nice little place. And the chicken is delicious. The beef was so-so, but the sushi was great as well. But the customer service, as I said before, was exceptional. Kind-hearted workers and cooks.

We were visiting a friend's sick child at Presbyterian Hospital and it was late and we were all hungry but it turned out the cafeteria was closed. So we hopped in the car looking for something, willing to settle for ANYTHING. When we saw California Bowl Sushi and Teriyaki we thought it would work out, but we figured we would be "settling" because it is located in a strip mall. Strip mall sushi is barely edible, right? WRONG! This place was fantastic! The ambiance was a bit too bright, a bit too "plastic tables and chairs" with a fast food feel, but the hospitality and the INCREDIBLY GOOD quality of the food more than made up for the deceptive first impression. We strolled in right about during their closing time and at first they said we were going to have to get our food to go, but we hesitated, not really wanting to get take out sushi to eat in a child's hospital room and the host very quickly asked special permission to let us eat in. She was so friendly and warm. There was a very wide selection of sushi posted in colorful photos on the wall. The prices were quite reasonable. We ended up ordering way more than we could eat. The food came out looking great--unlike crappy fast food places that have tempting photos that don't even look like the same TYPE of food they end up serving you. This place was the opposite of that: the photos on the wall looked mouth watering and the actual food was even better! Very fresh, expertly prepared and beautifully arranged on the plates. They were the kinds of dishes you almost feel bad eating because it's like art. Overall it was a fantastic dining experience. We were pleasantly surprised and very thankful for the terrific service and food. And all for a reasonable price!
